Nikodim Silivanovich

BELARUSIAN CLASSIC

Talent is a thing that does not depend on what time a person was born, in what family, what conditions, or financial situation. It was with Nikodim Silivanovich — a guy from a simple peasant family, his artistic abilities attract attention from the local landowner. He sent him to study first in the Molodechno five-year noble school, and then in St. Petersburg — to study at the society for the promotion of the arts, the Imperial St. Petersburg Academy of arts... At this moment you realize how lucky a simple peasant artist was in a particular case, and how many talented artists of that time remained unknown because of the conditions of their social status.

Nevertheless, Silivanovich never forgot who he was and where he came from, so, many of his works are devoted to the peasantry, the common people. The artist as no one knew their way of life very well — probably that’s why these images turned out to be so natural and alive. In addition, many of Nikodim Yurievich's works are on religious thematics. In this area he showed himself as well as a mosaic. The geography of the artist's works in this direction — from churches in Vilna and Lida, to the painting of the famous St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg.

There is only one work by Nikodim Silivanovich which is situated in Belarus — "Soldier with a boy", in the National art Museum of the Republic of Belarus. Now we would like to show you much more.
